“Unite the Kingdom March” -statement
We are saddened and disturbed by the horrific display of racist, misogynist, homophobic, anti-trans and other forms of bigotry at Saturday’s “Unite the Kingdom March” in London. We recognise how alarming this must be for our members, particularly those directly targeted by such abuse, as well as for clients who may also be affected.
We are also deeply concerned by the irresponsible promotion of violence at the event, which can only increase division and create further harm.
While we welcome the Prime Minister’s condemnation of the march, we urge the government to do more to counter the demonisation of minorities and the scapegoating of asylum seekers, and to work towards building economic security and inclusion for all.
Fighting for and defending equity and diversity is one of PCU’s core values. We stand in solidarity with those who resist hatred.
