PCU Disability Network: Inaugural Meeting Invitation

We are launching a PCU Disability Network – to provide support and awareness to increase accessibility and inclusion in counselling professions.

 

Training, working, or managing a private counselling practice as a disabled or neurodivergent practitioner can be challenging due to persistent social and structural barriers.

Access to counselling and psychotherapy for disabled clients is an increasingly important issue within the therapeutic community.

 

Who Can Join

We warmly invite all PCU members who identify as:

• Disabled
• Neurodivergent
• Living with a long-term health condition or chronic pain
• Or those who wish to act as allies to this community

Monday 10 November, 5pm

Online via Zoom

This initial gathering will provide an opportunity to share experiences, questions and concerns, and to begin shaping the aims and activities of the network.

If you are interested in joining, but cannot attend the meeting, please still get in touch as we can add you to the email group.

 

Legal Rights and Next Steps

The network also plans to seek legal opinion on the requirements for accessibility and reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act, including for:

• Therapists in private practice
• Trainees in private training institutions
• Therapists working within charities or companies

We hope this work will strengthen awareness and understanding of legal obligations and best practice.
