Israel/Palestine statement
The terrible situation in Gaza was discussed at the PCU AGM on May the 17th and the following was agreed:
-
PCU calls for an immediate ceasefire and for genuine endeavours and negotiations leading to peace, justice and self-determination for the Palestinian people.
-
PCU rejects the claim of the Israeli State and that of its supporters, that it represents and acts on behalf of all Jews and Jewish communities. (That claim is clearly refuted by the multitudes of Jewish protesters all over the Western world, which includes Rabbis and holocaust survivors and their descendants).
-
We support all the efforts to release all hostages and the many civilians (adults and children) who have been imprisoned without charge. We call on the British Government to play its own part in reaching such a settlement.
-
We call on the British Government to immediately suspend all arms sales and transfers to Israel, end all spy plane support, and introduce Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions to lend weight to those peace efforts until a just settlement is reached.
-
We call on all psychotherapy and counselling organisations to condemn the genocide and support the position we are taking here.
