Solidarity Statement for Trans Rights
PCU stands in full solidarity with all trans people and all those impacted by the disappointing Supreme Court Ruling made on 16th April, and the guidance that followed from the EHRC.
All trans people, like everyone else, must be allowed to live with respect, dignity and inclusion and we are alarmed to witness in the aftermath of the judgement, comments and actions which will deepen discrimination and create unnecessary and divisive barriers for trans people.
We confirm our commitment to standing with trans and non-binary people, and to defending the rights, safety and dignity of trans people whether at work, in the labour market or across wider society.
We reject the idea that women’s rights and trans rights are in direct conflict and we are committed as a union to promoting the human rights of all and standing up for all our members impacted by this judgement. We urge any members impacted in their work as psychotherapists and counsellors to contact us so that we can offer advice and support as needed.
We would encourage members and others to use this model letter to write to their MPs.
